New Rogue: SmartSecurity

by LS Anders on October 4th, 2010 in Rogues, Security Alert.

SmartSecurity is a new rogue antivirus application. It is a clone of SmartVirusEliminator.

This rogue has nothing to do with the previously reported SmartSecurity rogue.

SmartSecurity spreads by using fake online scanners. Once installed it will find several false positives. To be able to remove these threats the user is required to purchase a license. SmartSecurity will also block several other applications (both good and bad) from starting.

Ad-Aware detects SmartSecurity as Win32.FraudTool.SmartSecurity and Win32.FraudTool.SmartVirusEliminator.
