Happy New Year!!!

by Albin on December 30th, 2009 in Riff Raff.

There has been an abundance of facial hair at Lavasoft this past month, as our first ever Movember made its mark.

All throughout November, our Mo Bros have been growing their moustaches (some with better results than others) and raising about 4,000 SEK for cancer research. All funds raised at Lavasoft will be donated to cancerfonden.se

Thank you all for contributing to this great cause.

Movember is an annual charity event held during November to raise awareness and funds for mens health issues - all by putting mustaches back on upper lips. How does it work? Throughout the month, participants grow and groom their "mo", while raising money for research to combat prostate cancer by having friends and family sponsor their mustache growth.

Even if excessive consumption of alcohol has grave consequences to your health, e-mailing while drunk can be even more hazardous to your relationships, private and professional alike. Google seems to think that this is enough of a problem to introduce Mail Goggles, a new experimental feature in Gmail.

Ever wonder who led the way for Wi-Fi or spearheaded the development of the computer mouse?

It wasn't a contest so much as a challenge for beard growth.

Inspired by the national Swedish hockey team tradition of not shaving during the playoffs leading up to the world championships, some of our guys decided a couple of weeks before launch to let the hair grow - and here are the results. They also added a 'funky' hair day the day after launch, and then a fully clean shaven day on Friday.

The Aesthetics of Malware

by Tobias on January 23rd, 2008 in Riff Raff.

Visual artist Alex Dragulescu has created a set of aesthetic, organic-looking visualizations of malware.

"For each piece of disassembled code, API calls, memory addresses and subroutines are tracked and analyzed. Their frequency, density and grouping are mapped to the inputs of an algorithm that grows a virtual 3D entity. Therefore the patterns and rhythms found in the data drive the configuration of the artificial organism."

The Ultimate Defender Zlob

by Michael on September 26th, 2007 in Riff Raff.

A nice note from one of our customers yesterday:

"I was having a problem with the Ultimatedefender and Ultimatecleaner bogus trojan.32.looksky worm and running the Ad-Aware program with the latest updates corrected the problem.  I kept running my trend micro pc virus program scanning the entire system and nothing was reported."

Thanks!

Pot of Gold

We were so tempted to run across the bridge to the other side of the river when we saw that this rainbow had landed right outside. Was there a pot of gold? We'll never know.
